Inspired by my mother’s strength and love, we’re helping children stay warm all winter long.
Susie’s Story
Susie’s Coats for Kids was created in honor of my mother, Nora — a strong, hard-working woman who faced poverty, ill health, and adversity while raising four children. Despite her struggles, she had a wonderful sense of humor and did her very best to provide for her family with what little she had. Her strength, love, and determination continue to inspire me every day.
As a child who experienced homelessness and foster care, I know firsthand how something as simple as a warm coat can bring comfort, confidence, and hope. I started Susie’s Coats for Kids to honor my mother and to help other families who may be struggling to provide warm clothing for their children.
Each fall, we hold our Annual Distribution Day, where children in grades K–8 can select a brand-new coat, hat, and gloves in a warm, welcoming setting. In addition, we’ve established Coat Closets in schools and community agencies throughout Northwest Ohio, making sure help is available when it’s needed most—throughout the entire winter season.
Since our first distribution, we’ve proudly provided tens of thousands of brand-new coats and warm items to children in need, thanks to the generosity of caring individuals, families, and community partners.
Every item is new, given with dignity, and offered in Nora’s spirit—helping families stay warm, one child at a time.
